Retipping & Stone Tightening

Re-tipping the prongs with soft solder is how most goldsmiths usually fix worn out or broken prongs or tighten loose stones. Soft solder by definition is malleable and would most likely not hold up to regular wear for long. At Khoury Bros., we completely replace the prongs and use the laser to cold weld them in place. Incidentally, using the laser (which does not generate any heat) instead of the traditional torch (which involves a high degree of heat) allows us to work on many jewelry items that are set with gemstones that cannot take high temperatures, such as emeralds, opals, amethysts, most sapphires, rubies and others.
